How we test

How a ProductEarns Its Verdict.

Thirty days of real use. Three episodes. One verdict. Here’s exactly how it works, and why no brand can buy the result.

The 30-Day Truth

Three Episodes. One Verdict.

A test drive tells you what something is like for 20 minutes. We tell you what it’s like to own it. Miss an episode and you miss the twist.

Day 1

First look

The unboxing, the setup, the honeymoon, and the first thing that surprised us.

Day 7

Real life

The commute, the quirks, and what the brochure skipped.

Day 30

The verdict

Would we buy it with our own money? Crank It, Keep It On or Skip It.

Where products come from

Loaned, Sent or Bought.

Brands loan us products, send review samples, or we buy them ourselves. Every review says which, in the first line, before anything else.

  • Press loans go back when the test ends
  • Review samples we keep are disclosed as kept
  • Products we buy are labeled “Bought by NextWave”
  • Brands never see a verdict before it publishes
What we measure

Numbers From the Test Log.

We measure what matters to the person buying it, and we compare it with what the box claims. Every number comes from the test log. We never invent one.

Motorcycles

Seat comfort past 200 miles, helmet noise at 70 mph, intercom range in traffic, real fuel or battery range

Trucks & Off-Road

Real-world mpg loaded, bed and towing usability, cabin noise

Audio & Music Gear

Sound at low volume, comfort after 2 hours, call quality outdoors

Outdoors & Tailgate

Ice retention in heat, weight when full, real battery capacity

Boats & Beach

Salt and UV resistance, floats or sinks, charging near water

Tech & Cameras

Battery in cold weather, mount stability, stabilization at speed

How we score

Three Verdicts. No Fence-Sitting.

Verdicts are decided by the NextWave Tested editorial team at the end of the test. They are never changed for a brand, a sponsor or a vote count.

Crank It

Top pick. We’d buy it with our own money.

Turn it up

Keep It On

Good, with trade-offs we spell out so you can decide.

Listener votes

You Pick What We Test.

Votes and requests from all five stations decide what goes on test next. Claude’s pre-test score ranks brands from public news before any testing; it is not a product rating and it never changes a verdict.

● Claude’s pre-test score0–10A research score from public news, made before any testing. It is not a product rating.
● Listener votesLiveCounted across all five NextWave stations, one vote per email per brand.

Who tests

Real People, Real Miles.

Tests are run by NextWave hosts and editors who ride, tow, camp and listen for a living. Each review names who tested it. Host and editor bios are coming soon.

Corrections

When We Get It Wrong, We Say So.

If a fact in a review is wrong, we fix it and add a dated correction note at the bottom of the page. If a product changes after our test, we say so and retest when we can.

“Brands can send products. They can’t buy verdicts.”

Every review tells you how we got the product: a loan, a sample, or our own money. Sponsorships and ads are always labeled and never live inside a review. Read our editorial policy.
